Pā Hangarau is a 3-day Virtual Reality and Game Development wānanga for taitamariki (7 - 13 years). Tamariki are supported to explore a range of different VR experiences and then work collaboratively to build immersive VR environments or arcade-style games that celebrate te ao Māori and can be played in VR environments.
Māori are under-represented in tech and it is time for the tech workforce to become more diverse and inclusive.
In recent years, Tōnui Collab have partnered with various marae in Te Tairāwhiti. We thank Rangiwaho Marae, Pākōwhai Marae, Whangara Marae, Hauiti Marae, Te Poho o Rāwiri Marae, Muriwai Marae, Tuatini Marae, Pararaki Marae and Whakatō Marae for collaborating with us to create unique STEMM learning opportunities for our taitamariki.
We are always in the planning phase for upcoming marae-based STEMM wānanga so if you would like to invite us onto your marae in 2026, please contact us at admin@tonuicollab.com
During Pā Hangarau, whānau are invited to come and celebrate the efforts of the taitamariki, wānanga about the opportunities technology presents us with, and learn about education and career pathways in tech.
Ka nūnui te mihi to our funding partners, The Tindall Foundation and Spark Foundation, for their support and recognition of the value these marae-based wānanga have to our taitamariki, hāpori and whānau.
