COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

Outside of school workshops, after school workshops, and holiday workshops, TŌNUI Collab also collaborates with other community activators to create STEM learning opportunities for our tamariki, rangatahi and pakeke.

We have partnered with Tuia 250 and welcomed Hoturoa Barclay-Kerr and the waka Haunui team into TŌNUI Collab to share celestial navigation techniques.

Pūrākau o te Tairāwhiti are treasured taonga and we design workshops that empower tamariki and rangatahi to learn and respond to pūrākau through a STEM lens. We have partnered with Te Runanga o Turanganui a Kiwa and welcomed Albie Gibson and his team into TŌNUI Collab to share pūrākau o te Tairāwhiti with tamariki.  We have welcomed Charlotte Gibson from Ngati Oneone to share about Te Maro and his many talents. We have welcomed Huia Pihema from Te Aitanga a Mahaki to share pūrākau about Mahaki with rangatahi and support them to create digitally-enhanced responses to the pūrākau.

We expose tamariki to STEM learning opportunities with the goal of changing career pathways for rangatahi in te Tairāwhiti. Part of the exposure is helping our tamariki and rangatahi to see different career opportunities in the STEM industries. In 2021, we partnered with MataiResearch to run some robotics and engineering workshops that empowered tamariki and rangatahi to explore the diversity of STEM.

We have also collaborated with the Tairāwhiti Arts Festival, you can learn more about that here.
